Rationale:
Grant High School Hub staff believe that every student has the right of access to all forms of knowledge which foster the student’s development to his or her full potential and encourage life-long learning skills.
Consequently the policy of the Hub is fully aligned with that of the school especially in supporting the School Development plan. In addition, it is committed to the principles enunciated in “The Australian School Library Bill of Rights”, “the Freedom to Read Statement” prepared by the Australian Library Association and “the Statement on Principles of School Librarianship”.
Aims:
- To cater for the emotional, cultural and intellectual needs of students considering their various ages, abilities, interests and gender.
- To implement, support and enrich the school curriculum by providing a wide range of materials in differing formats at many levels.
- To organise these materials for effective use.
- To guide students and staff in their choice of materials.
- To teach students the 6-Step Research Skills process
- To provide a broad range of recreational materials to encourage the development of students’ literacy.
- To provide materials on both sides of controversial issues so that bias is avoided and an opportunity is given for developing critical judgement.
- To co-ordinate resources housed in specialist areas to make them accessible to the whole school population.
- To maintain an atmosphere in the Resource Centre conducive to effective learning and enrichment.
- To develop co-operative learning programs, in which classroom teachers and teacher/librarians plan, implement and evaluate subject-based learning programs.
