The Performing and Visual Arts

Dynamic and exciting things happen in The Arts at Grant. If you are interested in exploring your creativity, developing your artistic skills, growing your talents, enriching your life, performing your best in any, or all, of the Arts forms then you have come to the right place.

Grant High offers learning in Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts as per the Australian Curriculum from Year 8 – Year 10.

At Year 8 this takes the form of a semester of Performing Arts (a term of Drama, a term of Music) and a semester of Visual Arts which includes the disciplines of Art, Craft and Design.
Also at Year 8 we offer a semester of Music instead of Performing Arts, for those who are musically advanced.

In Year 9 students can make choices about the Arts pathway they wish to pursue, choosing from a semester of Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music Experience (for students already studying an instrument or advanced in their musical learning), Music Performance (for beginners or less advanced students), Drawing & Painting and or Art & Craft.

At SACE Stage 1 and 2 we offer Creative Arts, Drama, Music in several combinations including ensemble and solo performance, Visual Art – Art and Visual Art – Design. At this level each discipline has a dedicated specialist teacher and its own studio space. Results for SACE Stage 2 subjects are consistently high and opportunities exist for students to be advanced or extended at all year levels. Each discipline has a dedicated specialist teacher and its own studio space.

Various Musical / Dance / Drama evenings are held throughout each the year including Stage 12 Moderation Performances in each area and the annual awards presentation evening, Grant Presents. Every two years a whole school Musical is produced and performed in the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre.

The Visual Arts is a little quieter but no less dynamic. Student work is displayed as frequently as possible throughout the school. Art and Design students mount exhibitions on the SACE and Junior floors as well as in the Prism Shop display space. Art, craft and design works are used to enhance all public events within the school and enhance the foyer of each public performance at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre. After moderation Stage 2 Visual Art and Design student work is often publically exhibited.
