Health and Physical Education

Health and Physical Education is the area of learning where students are involved in physical activity, applying their knowledge about themselves and their health and the development of a healthy lifestyle.Health and Physical activity enables students to:

  • develop the ability to make informed decisions about their personal lifestyle
  • understand how to take responsible action to promote the wellbeing of themselves, other individuals and communities
  • develop self esteem, confidence and competence
  • participate fully and actively as individuals and as valued members of society.
At Grant High School aspects of Health and Physical Education are taught as components of Physical Education, Health, Outdoor Education, Soccer, Baseball, Netball and Home Economics.

 Year 8 Subjects

All year 8 subjects incorporate the following

  • Health Education

The fundamental aim of Health Education is to encourage optimal health and well being. The course aims to impart accurate health information and to develop an understanding of the factors affecting health; to help students to be more able to make informed choices about health attitudes and practices. Through a study of the major content areas of: Drugs and Fitness & Lifestyle, students experience activities which are aimed at developing social skills, communication skills, problem solving, decision making, and attitude and values clarification.The fundamental aim of Health Education is to encourage optimal health and well being.   • Home Economics (Food & Nutrition)

Through mainly practical experience, students are exposed to basic kitchen equipment and necessary skills, good eating habits and balanced meals. Emphasis is placed on hygiene, organisation and co-operation.
